Golden crowned Kinglet

Yesterday and the day before, I saw my firs Golden crowned Kinglet! The little bird had a beautiful little yellow spot on top of the head. He was a tiny 2 1/2 inch tall and 3 inches long! It was so cute!

One time our parents left for a show and we stayed here with our grandmother. When I was just getting up that morning, I heard a loud bang on the window. I ran down stairs to see what it was. There was a little male downy woodpecker laying there stunned. I picked it up in a towel and brought it to our room. When I got there my brother was sitting there reading. I said 'I have a surprise for you' I said holding the stressed woodpecker behind my back. He was amazed at the little thing. I was sure it was going to die, but when i was going to go out side with it.... It squirmed out of my hand and flew to some furniture and started pecking on it. then it flew back to us and started standing and pecking my brother! As I was about to open the window, it flew and hit the window a second time. then it noticed the open window and flew away.

sand dollars

I just learned a lot about sand dollars. They are a sea urchin. They can be found in any ocean that is not cold. When it is alive they are brown and furry. When they die they become hollow and float up to the surface of the ocean and float ashore. They loose their fur when they die and become light brown. When we where in Pensacola Florida we where on a hotel on the beach. When we went out to swim we would find a lot of parts of sand dollars. We only found two full round ones.

turtle and nature

This is a turtle that came in our backyard last year, I used to want to be a photographer. I love all nature. I can not stand New York City, it is all city, not much nature in it. Maybe there is a park or two or three or four or five. Well I have never been there, but my father has.
He says there isn't much. Plus, there probably used to be a beautiful tree that was where the Empire State building is now. Well that is the way I think of it.

meadow lark and New Mexico

When we came back from New Mexico, My father hit a poor little meadow lark. It was so pretty. I am sad it had to die. It had such a pretty belly. When we where in NM, we went to a nature preserve. I saw so many new birds there. There where; northern shoveler, ring necked duck, wood duck, mountain chickadee, lesser scaup, a small dove, black duck, and black chinned hummingbird. We do have a road runner hear, but I saw a lot in NM. I got a video and pictures of one.

guinea pigs

I thought it was so cute when our guinea pig, timothy, got up on top of Cc. That was a day when we sat down and gave them "Exercise". In order to give them exercise, you have to pick Cc up and put him right above the floor. He will start trying to run away from you. He will not know that he is still in the air. At least it works with our guinea pig.

red breasted nuthatch

When I came home from work with my mother I looked at the porch, I saw a red breasted nuthatch that had hit the window. I was able to study the wings and feet. We buried him out next to Lucky and Smirk. Smirk is a lizard that my brother caught in Florida. He was a anole. We left for a trip and had someone take care of him. When we returned we watched a movie and went upstairs and saw that smirk had been mummified. It didn't help that we just watched the "mummy".

This was my first sunflower to open its head. We use its seeds as a snack now. The seed that I planted to get it was from a bag of

bird seed. Unfortunately I was out of town when my mother took the picture. I did not get to see it with all the petals.

my first pileated pictures

This is a titmouse and a pileated woodpecker. I was taking pictures of birds when the titmouse landed on the feeder. I started taking pictures of it. Then I heard a sound like something just landed on the utility pole. I thought that it was just the usual red bellied woodpecker. I turned my camera to the utility pole. To my surprise there was a pileated woodpecker. She sat there for and while and I took a lot of pictures. That was the first time I got pictures of a pileated.

woodpecker

Last year my grandparents heard a thump on their window. They looked out and saw that a red bellied woodpecker (named Boss Hog) hit the window. They thought that he would not live so they brought him inside and rapped a towel around him and took pictures. They put him out on the deck so if he revived he could fly off. He revived and flew off.

I kept talking about my junior sunflowers, well, here they are. All three heads open. Now i have only one head from them left for me to plant. I enjoyed having the little sunflowers.

three birds on a feeder

Here is when I saw a red bellied woodpecker sitting next to two chickadees. I imagined the chickadees saying to each other, "psst, I'm not so sure about that fella, He's pretty big." "Don't talk to loud he might hear you." I like this picture.

white cone flower

This is a white cone flower. We just got this one. I am fascinated with cone flowers along with zinnias. This one has had three flowers on it, the

picture is taken before the other two opened.

favorite flower

I learned that my favorite flower is now the Zinnia, especially the orange ones. Here is when a butterfly landed in my Zinnia garden. I am just fascinated with the way zinnias layer up, sometimes, this one is a single layer.

so close!

One time my brother and I where sitting on the porch just reading a book. I heard a pileated woodpecker. I jumped up, grabbed a camera, and jumped in the back yard. I waited and waited. Finally when i got tired of waiting so I was about to go back inside... By the way, I had pulled a chair up right next to the bird feeder.... I heard a, whoosh.... whoosh... whoosh. I slowly looked up to see the feeder. I looked right in the eyes of one big pileated woodpecker!! I took so many pictures! All to find out that the camera could not hold any more pictures. Oh well, it was so awesome!
