6 inch slug

One day last summer, my father and mother were pulling stuff out from under the porch. There was a large drape that was filled with snails and slugs. There was even a slug that was six inches!

I saw my first Ruby crowned kinglet of Thursday of last week. My mother and I were going on a walk looking for eagles and saw the female ruby crowned kinglet. We also saw an osprey. I thought that was an eagle when i first saw it, but it had a white belly. I had fun. If you look real close, you can see the little bird in the pic.

Golden crowned Kinglet

Yesterday and the day before, I saw my firs Golden crowned Kinglet! The little bird had a beautiful little yellow spot on top of the head. He was a tiny 2 1/2 inch tall and 3 inches long! It was so cute!

One time our parents left for a show and we stayed here with our grandmother. When I was just getting up that morning, I heard a loud bang on the window. I ran down stairs to see what it was. There was a little male downy woodpecker laying there stunned. I picked it up in a towel and brought it to our room. When I got there my brother was sitting there reading. I said 'I have a surprise for you' I said holding the stressed woodpecker behind my back. He was amazed at the little thing. I was sure it was going to die, but when i was going to go out side with it.... It squirmed out of my hand and flew to some furniture and started pecking on it. then it flew back to us and started standing and pecking my brother! As I was about to open the window, it flew and hit the window a second time. then it noticed the open window and flew away.

oriole

This is a female Baltimore oriole. When we came back from New Mexico there was a family of them waiting at my feeder. I saw the male while we where leaving and these two females stayed for the nectar. It was not the first time I saw them but it was the coolest.

Anhinga

This is an Anhinga that I took in Florida. My family really likes it. I won an award off of it in a little art show. when I was in Florida that time, I saw quite a few new birds. There was a Limp-kin, a flock of white ibises, a lot of Muscovy ducks, a tri colored heron, a green heron, and some type of duck that i do not know. It was fun.

sand dollars

I just learned a lot about sand dollars. They are a sea urchin. They can be found in any ocean that is not cold. When it is alive they are brown and furry. When they die they become hollow and float up to the surface of the ocean and float ashore. They loose their fur when they die and become light brown. When we where in Pensacola Florida we where on a hotel on the beach. When we went out to swim we would find a lot of parts of sand dollars. We only found two full round ones.
